Macau

I travelled to Macau (or Macao, depending on your preference) for an overnight stay from Hong Kong, in May 2019. Getting there from Hong Kong is easy - just catch the Turbo Jet! It's affordable and you'll get to travel across the South China Sea! It takes around an hour and a lot of their fleet uses Hydrofoil. If you get seasick like I do, book one of these because you'll be raised out of the water and it really reduces the bumps.

I knew little about Macau other than it is the Las Vegas of Asia. I stayed at the Crowne Plaza, and the room offered amazing views across the border into China. The service in this hotel is amazing, and I would highly recommend staying there.

Getting around Macau is easy - each hotel has a shuttle bus. These buses make a fantastic network - they depart quite often and are free! Fantastic! The city offers a lot of the same hotels that are available in Vegas; I got a picture by The Eiffel Tower and saw the canal inside The Venetian. Every hotel offers something new. I spent a considerable amount of time in The Grand Lisboa - the iconic hotel and casino of Macau. I was gobsmacked when I walked inside - it was true to it's name - GRAND. It has so many glorious floors, and make sure you leave with your complimentary umbrella! If you visit this lovely city, this building is a must.

But it gets even better! My favourite hotel ended up being The Wynn Palace. What other hotel involves a gondola ride to get to the front door??! How cool! What I saw inside took my breath away. The crystal, the shine, the glamour! I felt under dressed, but I didn't care. I couldn't believe somewhere like this even existed. Maybe i'll stay there one day, if I win the lotto!

Macau is a friendly little city. I was stuck in a massive downpour with no shelter and a lovely elderly local let me shelter with her under her umbrella! A kindness that saved me getting soaked. the streets are cute and quaint, offering very European vibes. Make sure you check out the Ruins of St Paul's before departing! Another iconic landmark not to be missed. You'll momentarily feel like you're in Europe. I wish I spent longer in Macau, and i'll definitely be back.
